Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine quality of life(QoL) according to the status of bone density and whether meeting WHO¡¯s physical activity(PA) and/or strength exercise(SE) participation guideline would be associated with QoL among Korean Male over 65 years old. We analyzed Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2008-2010 data, which included a total of 1,451 Korean males over 65 years old, whose bone density assessed by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry and QoL data are available. Results showed significantly lower QoL among those with osteopenia and osteoporosis compared with those with normal bone density. Among participants with osteopenia and osteoporosis, participants who met the PA and SE guideline showed better QoL compared with those who did not meet the guideline. When joint associations were examined, compared with those who met neither PA and SE guideline, those who met PA guideline regardless of meeting SE guideline showed better QoL. Furthermore, multiple regression analyses showed both meeting PA guideline and SE guideline are associated with QoL after controlling for other known variables associated with QoL. In summary, PA and SE are related to the QoL in elderly Korean males with osteopenia and osteoporosis.
